Moving 101
Packing is stressful and time-consuming, but these few tips and tricks, it will make it seem like a breeze when you’re preparing for your next move!
Declutter
It’s super important to realize you don’t need to move things you no longer need. Help yourself in the long run by going through your things that have been in that coat closet or junk drawer that no longer serve a purpose. Check to make sure all the furniture you currently have will fit in your new space. Whatever you determine doesn’t need to make it to your next home, sell it, trash it or donate it!
Look Around
Moving boxes are great for packing things like kitchenware and small appliances, but no one wants to fold all of their leggings and sweats in a box. Look around your house and see what items can double as storage. Maybe pack all your towels and sheets in a suitcase, or use a hamper for all of your shoes, or keep all your hanging clothes on the hanger and placing a trash bag over it. It will make the unpacking that much easier.
Photos
Photos are a lifesaver when trying to remember which HDMI cord went into which Apple TV. Or maybe you don’t remember exactly how you took apart your bed frame, but the photos are there to give you the step-by-step on putting it back together.
Color Labels
If you’re packing room by room, go ahead and give each room its own color in packing labels or packing tape. That way when you’re unloading, you know all the red tape goes to the kitchen while all the green tape goes into the office.
Padding
Having to pack all your glassware is stressful (and tedious), but when you know you have a linen closet full of towels, blankets, and sheets, kill two birds with one stone and wrap all your breakables with what you have already.
Fill the Space
Don’t leave any open space in your moving boxes. Stuff them with clothing or packing paper so you can avoid all of your belongings shifting while transporting them. Try not to cram and overpack a box, however filling it with light paper or t-shirts will keep everything in place without adding weight.
Moving Essentials
Now you’ve made it to the day of the move. Do you really want to go through all those boxes to find where your PJs or toothbrush is? Prepare a bag with all the essentials you will need over the next few days while you’re settling into your new place. Some cleaning supplies, toiletries, and linen for the bed are a great start.
